Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about rabbits that we get and here I will try to answer them. I will be adding to this over time as there are a lot of questions to add.
The answer here depends on a few things, coat quality, rabbit's age, and conditions the rabbit is kept in.
Young rabbits have a finer baby coat, the individual hairs are thinner than when they grow an adult coat. So the first coat will usually tangle a little easier than their future coats.
Coat quality is a second factor. Good coats require less grooming.
Third is how the rabbit is kept. An Angora kept in a clean cage will need less grooming than one kept in a dirty or improper cage. I highly recommend wire bottom cages for Angoras. They have a lot of fur on the feet that helps prevent sore hocks or other issues associated with wire bottom cages. That said you will want a mat in the cage to give their feet a break .
I groom most my angoras weekly with a blower and the occasional use of a stainless steel comb. I shear them every 3-4 months or whenever the coat is over 4 inches long. I find that letting it get longer than that, it starts to need more daily grooming.
Also do not be afraid to shear your angoras if you know you are going to be busy and might fall behind on grooming. It's okay not to be perfect, and if shearing them short helps you keep them in good condition its much better than trying to keep up and falling behind and getting matted gross rabbits.
